Bible Basics: Where to Begin?

Have you ever read the Bible? Have you ever studied the Bible? Do you know where to begin? There really is no right or wrong answer regarding where to begin, but this page includes my suggestions.

First, make sure it is a readable, decent translation. Some suggestions:

English Standard Version (ESV)

New American Standard Bible (NASB)

New International Version (NIV)

New Revised Standard Version (NRSV)

Second, make sure the Bible includes at least some type of dictionary or index. This will help you look up characters and concepts.

Third, for further study, consider purchasing a decent study Bible. A study Bible will include deeper insights and educational tid bits on passages and verses. Some suggestions:

Life Application Study Bible (available in various translations)

MacArthur Study Bible (NASB, NKJV)

Quest Study Bible (NIV)
